These are people who have overcome their physical limitations and found proper expression of their talents in the sphere of art. They overcame all difficulties in not being able to make art the way normal people do; moreover, they have demonstrated their strength and willingness to create exceptional works of art. Over the past 50 years, this small group of Israeli artists have proven that they are capable of painting with their mouths or feet, and they have deservedly gained recognition all over the world. Each of these artists has his own story to tell, so that the painting he does would be more comprehensible for people.
Mouth painter Izik Adir did not always devote himself to the service of art. He was an engineer in the Israeli Air Force. But everything in his life changed dramatically when at the age of 24 he was badly injured in a motorcycle accident. Since that time, he has not been able to move about without a wheelchair. After the accident happened, he found the nerve to move forward, though his military career was over. He entered Beit Berl, the academy for art teachers, and art became his lifes purpose. A new course was soon arranged under his guidance. He called it Rehabilitative Art, and its purpose was to train art teachers to work with disabled people. Later, he was elected an Israeli and European senior delegate to the Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists. Itzik has had many exhibitions in Israel and around the world in Austria, Australia, Canada, Spain, Portugal and more. He has a wife; her name is Yafit, and they have three beautiful children. Besides working in the sphere of art, he often gives lectures to students about how to prevent accidents on the road, and teaches how to be an artist in spite of a terrible injury.
There is a special organization called The Mouth and Foot Painting Artists Association (MFPA), a society of disabled artists, fully owned and run by the artists themselves. Members paint with brushes held in their mouths or feet because of inability to paint with their hands due to birth defects or disabilities resulting from accident or illness. The organization has already attracted over 800 artists from 75 countries, supporting all the painters in their projects and helping them to achieve respect, dignity, and success.
The Israeli branch of Mouth or Foot painters was founded in 1965 and is one of the 75 branches affiliated with the global organization. There are more than 800 painters working for the sake of MFPA and their own recognition as artists. The goal of these people is to show their emotions, life experience, and brightness of life through their art.
The Israeli branch publishes diverse calendars, cards, books, albums, coasters, and a unique Passover Haggadah. The artists would like to introduce you to their 2016-17 desk calendar and different sets of greeting cards. Israeli artists, mouth or feet painters, made all of the represented illustrations, and the great results they have achieved with this work are exceptional.
